It's easy to think that Windows 8 will be Windows 7 part 2 or Vista part 3. But it will soon be clear that this will be a change just as big or bigger than XP to Vista.

Everything works just like in my posting, but of course it's not that easy in Vmware ;-)

But as everybody knows (or should know), you need TPM or a USB stick to be able to run Bitlocker encryption on the disk. 

Or do we?




We can actually use anykind of removable disk, not only USB stick, and a virtual floppy will do the trick. So we just need to create a virtual floppy in our virtualization software. Back in the "old" days there was a registry setting to show all hidden devices in device manager

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment]

Just add "DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES" as a REG_SZ (String Value) with valuve 1



You have to use this to show devices that was not shown even after turning the "View - Show Hidden Devices" on.

I managed to get in drivers app by using the "Troubleshoot compatiblity", some it automaticly fixed (even suggested it when the installation failed) and some it tried to use the XP settings, but it need to bee Windows 7.

Microsoft have made the Iscsi Software Target available for public 
download. So if you have a Windows Server 2008 R2 you can use it as 
a NAS device. Not recommended for big solutions, but perfect for test/demo and 
small companies/ branch offices. 

 

It's real perfect for testing out clustering featues, like Hyper-v, Exchange and so on.

(Windows 8 can mount them to)

Most free programs have the possibility to either burn or mount them, again not create.
