SharePoint Conference 2019 - Secure the data, not the device

Hi, I am just sitting here and planning my session for SharePoint Conference 2019.

While SharePoint have been around for a while now, it might seem like 2019 will be a year when many companies will start to migrate content of their file servers to SharePoint Online.

Users home folder are being migrated to OneDrive and shared folders are heading for different Office 365 Groups, Teams or other sites. In this process, it’s a good time to enable another layer of security, data security.

The name of my session “Secure the data, not the device” might appear as I don’t want you to secure your devices. But of course, that’s not the point.

The session is focusing on how you must plan for the data itself to be secure, no matter if it’s on a company secured device or some other storage outside your control.

Looking on all the different ways, you can secure your data in Microsoft 365 it is important to know the different solutions and how they can be used to make your data as secure as possible.

Just by the share amount of different portals might scare of some administrator, you have:

Security & Compliance – Where you go for Data loss prevention and Data governance.

OneDrive Admin portal – For your OneDrive central configurations

Sharepoint admin center - Where you currently have both the modern preview and the classic portal

Exchange admin center - To manage your mail flow and Office 365 message encryption

Azure Information Protection – Labels and protection

Cloud App Security portal - Gives us reporting, monitoring, and automation functionality

It might look confusing, but luckily lot of the functionalities are being moved together.

After attending my session you will hopefully understand how it works, and when to use the different technologies.
