Deploying Windows 10

In middle of August Windows 10 have supposedly reached more than 50 million computers (info here), and with users trying it out at home and loving it, the pressure to get it at work computers also are build up.

Microsoft have done different measure to make sure that enterprises will have more control over their Windows 10 deployment.

The Windows 10 upgrade should be automatically blocked on computers or devices in the following scenarios:

Deploying Windows 10 Preview with MDT 2013

For now MDT doesn't support deploying Windows 10. That is related too the new version number Windows got with build 9926.

 

Changing Windows product key (license) for a MDT OS deployment task

Creating a new OS deployment task in MDT you will be asked to specify product key

That’s easy enough, but what if you type in the wrong key or just want to change it (add it) later? You might even have gotten a new MAK.

That is not as easy, you cannot do it from the graphical interface, you have to do it from one of the configuration files. Well you might to it from graphical interface by typing it in every time deploying a computer gets deployed but that is not a great solution.

TechED Amsterdam: Using the POC Jumstart Kit

During my session at TechEd Europe I talked about and showed the "POC Jumpstart Kit". This is a smart solution to test out Windows and Office readiness, deployment or just play around With MDT, SCCM, ACT and MAP.

It's a large download, but you get a great demo environment ready in no time. A bit like the Hydration Kit, but you don't have to do the installation process. Everything is on one server, and the server is ready to be used on Hyper-V or Virtual PC. There is no Integration Components installed so it's works well on both platforms. Convertion to other platforms should work as well.

Among the greates benefits are that you get a "instructions manual" with it. There is 13 lab guides Learning you how to use all the powers installed in the "Jumpstart Kit"

There is some "minor" issues to get it to work, but luckily there is workarounds :-)
